It’s often said that defeat builds character. If that’s true, then the Lossie Phantoms may now be the most character-rich team in all of Rocket League. Back for Week 2 of the BFBS Pro League 2025, our heroes returned to the Lossie Phantoms Esports Arena, buoyed by resilience, blind optimism, and the kind of misplaced belief normally reserved for lottery tickets.
And what fixtures they were.
The night began with a hopeful hum. AS1(T) Ryan Beesla, AS1 Lucas Codd, and AS1(T) Anthony Kariuki — the returning trio known across Lossiemouth (and nowhere else) — stood tall in the glow of Rocket League’s virtual chaos. But fate, like a ball with no boost, is often cruel.
There’s something about losing to a team named after a thing you’re supposed to miss. A tough opener, and an early sign that the night may not be going quite as scripted.
The Phantoms tangled with the Rattlers and found themselves well and truly bitten. The side lines cheered; the scoreboard did not.
This one? A massacre. No other word will do.
Scores of 9–1 and 7–0 — the kind of results that would get a manager sacked if this were Sunday League. It was less Rocket League, more Rocket lesson. Still, the Phantoms grabbed a goal and the crowd roared as if they'd won the World Cup. A glimmer in the storm.
Oh, but it could. The irony was rich. If team names won trophies, this one would have swept it.
This was the one. The game. The moment.
Two overtimes. Two goals each. And two painfully close 2–1 defeats that felt less like losing and more like being politely shown the door. This was the closest the Phantoms came to glory — and it was heartbreak in slow motion.
Once again, the Barrel & Bean was alive with cheers, jeers, and hopeful encouragement. There were chants. There were laughs. There was at least one moment of "OH HE'S MISSED IT!"
And through it all, the Phantoms played on — defiant, spirited, gloriously and heroically outmatched.
In a tournament full of highlight reels and heartbreak, one thing remains consistent: the unwavering spirit of the Lossie Phantoms — still standing, still smiling, still somehow not uninstalling Rocket League.
They may be 0–10 on paper. But in heart? 10–0. And they left the arena the way true cult heroes do — smiling, shoulder-patting, and very possibly questioning their choice of game.

Week 3 awaits. And who knows? With a bit of luck, a rogue flip reset, and divine intervention from Psyonix itself, perhaps next week... they’ll go home with more than just character.
Or at least not play anyone called Storm Shadows.
